Fitness Background: 

Amna Al Haddad, born in 21 Oct 1989, is an Emirati who always had a passion for health and fitness, but she has been seriously weight training for more than two years. Her passion is lifting heavy weights and gain physical strength while still maintain her femininity, and inspire other women. She was introduced to crossfit in April 2011, and decided to compete in October 2011.

She then became the first Emirati and GCC national female to compete in the Reebok Crossfit Games Open (February 22 - March 25) and was ranked 77th out of 170 women in Asia. She qualified to compere with a team in the Asia Regionals, Korea from 4-6 of May 2012 and made history by being the first Emirati to compete in the Asia Regionals and to do so in a headscarf.

Some of her favorite exercises are the Olympic lifts, which are the Clean & Jerk and the snatch.

Previous training: 
She started her fitness journey in November 2009 after fighting severe depression. She started weight training and soon after incorporated Mixed Martial Arts up for about a year until end of October 2011.

Profession and Education:
A professional journalist by day - night too, it's a 24/7 job after all - she works with one of the leading English newspapers in the UAE. Her work mainly focuses on social affairs, Emirati social issues, and success stories. As for her education, she has graduated with a BA in Mass Communication, Journalism and a minor in Psychology from the American University of Sharjah in Fall 2010.

Aspirations:

One of her dreams is to also open her own functional-type of gym, one which is free of useless equipment. However, her ultimate goal is go to the Olympics - and hopes that her parents and family will support her - given she comes from a religious background and family.
